A Few of My Favorite Things

OGDEN TREEHOUSE MUSEUM
I love this place. On Mondays they have Toddler Time from 10-12 that only costs $3 for the kids, adults get in free. Normally it would cost $8 for both of us to get in. There is a lot to do there, but William never makes it past the Train display and I am fine with that. If you live in the area, I would highly recommend the Treehouse Museum.

MARIE'S SMILE

It is so easy to get Marie to smile, which is kind of ironic because she has proven to be a fussier baby than William was . . . and yet more smiley, huh? Anyway, she loves to smile and we love to see it! What a doll.

BLOGGING
Am I addicted to blogging if, when something happens during the day, I start thinking about what the blog title would be and what I would write? Or, how about if I take a picture and instantly think about a caption? I guess it could be worse. I could take pictures and plan events just because I think it would be a good blog post. I remember talking to someone once, I can't remember who it was, anyway, she was telling me that she had the cutest scrapbook stuff for a day of shopping, so she needed to take pictures while shopping, so that she could scrap them. I haven't gone that far in blogging or scrapping, so I guess I am OK. I'm lucky to be able to keep up on the events that just happen, let alone planning events just so that I can document them.

EDAMAME
Have you tried this stuff? They are Japanese soy beans. Very tasty. They make a great snack and are also super yummy on salads. The best part? They are very good for you!

MILLED FLAX SEED
Speaking of healthy foods, this is another one that I love. Rich in, well, lots of good stuff, it is considered a power food by someone who knows what they are talking about. Sprinkle it on your cereal in the morning or your spaghetti at night. Throw it in the blender with your other smoothie ingredients. Plus, it can be used as a substitute for eggs or oil in most baked goods recipe. I like it in muffins the best. I tried it in banana bread. Not so much. I like my banana bread to be sweet and fattening, not healthy.

freekidscrafts.com
With a new craft each day that is kid-friendly and affordable, how can you go wrong? William and I have tried out two or three of these crafts and he has loved them. He really just likes to smear the glue stick all over the place, but I like to think that he is actually enjoying the creative process. Check it out and have fun!

Happy Monday!

Just thought you might like to see a couple of Marie's newest tricks (as of a month ago when this was taken, I know, I am a slacker).

Trick #1: gurgling
Trick #2: stomach crunches

Since the video was taken she has learned that she doesn't just have to gurgle her saliva. She can actually stick her tongue out and spit it all over the place. So much fun!

Recipe

I know what you are thinking. "Back so soon?!" Marie is happily jumping away in her jumperoo. It should last long enough for a quick post. This one is for my friend Diana. A little while ago she started a game of "recipe tag". I have thought of tons of recipes I would like to share, but the previous post explains why I haven't done it. Anyway, here is one for you, Di.

This is a Rachael Ray recipe. I find her stuff to be kind of hit and miss, especially her 30 minute meals. A lot of times it takes 30 minutes, but by the time I am done I have burned more calories than I am about to consume. Or the ingredients cost more than a weeks worth of groceries. Yeah, not so much ideal for this mommy. This recipe, however, is a winner. It is easy to prepare, doesn't take too many ingredients and it is delicious, of course. It has become a staple in our household. Give it a try, it is, in the words of R-dawg herself, "Yum-O!"

Green Spring Chili and French Fry Pie(In order to avoid infringment on any copyright laws, I am just providing a link to the recipe. I don't want anyone to think that it is my original!)

Side Notes:
--The recipe calls for 2 pounds of meat, I only use 1 pound and it makes plenty.
--Cannellini beans are in the recipe, and they are the great, but I have also used whatever bean I happen to have on hand that night. Red kidney and garbanzo beans are good. Black beans are good. I don't think you can really go wrong with the type of bean.
--My favorite french fries, by far, for this recipe are Ore Ida Fast Food Fries. They stay nice and crispy when you add them to the chili.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder . . .

. . . either that or it causes everyone to forget that I even exist. Just kidding. Anyway, for everyone that is just dying for a new post from me. I am sorry. My kids have started a mutiny against me. They haven't napped at the same time for about a week. Like right now, I am quickly typing this while I listen to Marie scream. Lovely. Gotta jet! More to come someday, I am sure.

Quotes

I was looking for ideas for a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast for Primary and came across some great quotes about kids. I know many of you out there will enjoy these as much as I did:

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing. ~Phyllis Diller

You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance. ~Franklin P. Jones

Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see. ~John W. Whitehead, The Stealing of America, 1983

There was never a child so lovely but his mother was glad to get him to sleep. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Children seldom misquote. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said. ~Author Unknown

A little girl is sugar and spice and everything nice - especially when she's taking a nap. ~Author Unknown

While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about.
~Angela Schwindt

What is a home without children? Quiet. ~Henny Youngman

William's Room . . . Again

I just wanted to post some more pictures of William's room because that one picture didn't do it justice, especially the curtains. I am shamelessly proud of the curtains, mostly because they turned out a whole lot cuter than I expected. I just love the bright colors and have thrown in some red because if I am ever crazy enough to decide to have another kid, then William and Marie will be sharing a room. Therefore, the red is in honor of Marie, William's future roommate. I am really wondering about the paint colors. Right now it is the same color as the rest of the house, a light yellow. I am thinking that I will do a couple of colors, but I don't want to darken the room up to much. Another thought I had was to do a horizontal stripe on a couple of the walls, right at the top, where you might put a wallpaper border. It's not like I will have time to paint anytime soon. Really I am just thinking "out loud." If you have any ideas, though, I am all ears!
