PROJECT #1: DECK SLIDE
STATUS: COMPLETED
Decks these days are just way to safe. Take ours for example. The space between railing boards is a mere 4 inches. That's not even big enough for William before he learned to chew (or in other words, before the age of 2 and 1/2) to fit in between. So to compensate, we decided to removed three railing boards. We then installed a slide that slows down the acceleration due to gravity down to 9.7 m/s^2 from the normal 9.8 m/s^2. It's a very fast slide. William loves it, but it is a little too fast for Marie. We anticipate Marie enjoying it later this Summer.

STATUS: *PUFF, PUFF* . . . IN PROCESS
While my neighbors spent last Saturday sprucing up there lawns, I spent a good amount of calories tearing out my lawn. Clearing out 108 sq ft of sod is quickly becoming my new exercise program.
Like many young lads, William loves trucks, tractors, etc. He loves to drive and dig these items in the one inch of dirt that we so graciously provided him in his wagon. However, understandably this has become quite dull. The boy needs a sandbox and Mommy needs William and Marie to play in the backyard for a portion of the day.
We are also putting in the garden so we can eat homegrown foods that Bethany enjoys, Brandon tolerates, William gags on, and Marie eats because they are carbon based.

Okay, I can't believe you guys have a deck slide. Ben and I have been talking about this and trying to find one for a year now. Where did you get it and how high is your deck??? I am assuming it is the same as ours...seeing as we have the same house and all. I am so jealous. We figured this would be the best way to fit some sort of playground in the yard and I actually think much safer than our stairs :) Okay, please let me know where you found this lovely item. It would make my whole family's day to FINALLY get our deck slide. Thanks!

p.s. you know that in Bethany's absence there is an open invitation for you to come over here for Jazz games and dinner, right? We have to make sure you have enough fuel to finish those projects.
The deck slide is the coolest thing I have ever seen! I think I need to come and visit you. Soon. So don't take any month long vacations.....I'd be pretty disappointed if I show up at your door and you aren't there..

Pulling out sod is a lot of work! We put in a sandbox when we first moved to our house. I liked it, somewhat, but the kids had to be hosed down every time they wanted to come back in. Here's a little tip--buy the good, white sand that brushes off easily. After a couple years of the sand box, I decided I had had enough sand and I put in a fire pit and patio blocks to cover the sand box. I am way impressed with the deck slide! What a great idea. I will remember that one in case we ever get a house with a deck.
